I made this cabinet for my wife (Cheryl) and me. The general form was inspired by a cabinet built by the great Sam Maloof, a picture of which which appears in the "Introduction" section (pg. xv) of the book The Furniture of Sam Maloof (a wonderful book). This piece certainly does not compare to Maloof's in beauty or execution, but its design origins should be noted.
The cabinet stands in our kitchen and serves as both a liquor cabinet and center island counter top. There are doors on both front & back so it can be accessed from either side. The case is made from walnut. Poplar is employed as a secondary wood for the shelves inside. A store-bought wine glass rack is installed and provides a place from which to hang our wine glasses.
